Klamath

A steelhead fishing center, this is a growing town, which has based its economy on hosting visitors: with jet-boat trips up the Klamath River, camping and RV parks and attractions, including the Tour-Thru Tree (south of town) and a Paul Bunyan theme park called Trees of Mystery (north of town).

Trees of Mystery includes a large gift shop and the End-of-the-Trail Indian Museum, holding one of the nation's largest collections of Indian artifacts, including masks, jewelry and woven baskets. Don't be misled by the garish nature of the entrance to Trees of Mystery. It's a very interesting place with an educational trail through the woods. A restaurant is located across the highway.

Klamath is a good place to stay when visiting Redwood National Park. It's at just about the center of the park.

The town has long been a favorite place for campers and RV owners to camp near the shoreline. Roads are often lined with RVs, parked for weekend activity. The year 2000 saw the Parks Service moving to eliminate the popular parking spots. Tourists are angry, and the local business people are even angrier. While there is still parking along the roads, the Park Service intends to eliminate it over the next few years.
