Here are our thoughts about where to stay in
Mammoth Lakes.
Next to the Ski Area:
The hotel right on the ski slope is the Mammoth
Mountain Inn. However, the Austria Hotel is right
at the base of the slopes and has a great deal of charm
and costs less. the hotel has a good German dining room,
plus a bar downstairs. It's at 924 Canyon Blvd.
Mammoth Mountain Inn, located at One Minaret
Rd., features both hotel rooms and condominiums, all ski
in/ski out in the winter. In summer, the hotel is a svery
short walk to the bike park and the Adventure Center. The
views of the mountain and ski slopes are impressive.
Amenities include 24 hour front desk, concierge, bell
service, ski/board and bike check, seasonal day care, a
store, pool and whirlpool, and free shuttle to tht
townThe Mountainside Grill serves California cuisine.
There are two notable bars: the Dry Creek Bar, with a
great view of Mammoth Mountain; and the Yodler Bar and
Pub The hotel has 213 rooms.
Alpenhof Lodge Hotel is another more economical
choice for skiers and mountain lovers. It has the
"Bavarian" look. There are 48 rooms, and some have
wood-burning fireplaces. There's a sauna plus therapy
pool. In warmer months, visitors use the heated outdoor
pool. It's at 6080 Minaret Road.
At Twin Lakes
The most beautiful location for a hotel has to be
beside Twin Lakes. Tamarack Lodge Resort, on Twin
Lakes Road, sits beside the water in an idyllic location.
With only 36 units, it small and intimate. It's lodge and
other buildings look like they have been here a long
time, and the're quite historic. It's the perfect example
of the old-time wilderness lodge, but with modern
conveniences. The main lodge has a restaurant, bar, and
the great room has a fireplace and seating for relaxing.
In Town
The Rodeway Inn Sierra Nevada, is found at 164
Old Mammoth Rd. in the Mammoth Lakes townsite. The hotel
has a free shuttle to the main ski lodge. Amenities
include a restaurant and bar, pool, whirlpool, and sauna.
Anglers will like its facilities for cleaning and
freezing fish. Other services include free coffee in the
lobby, a concierge, a large lobby with fireplace, and
parking for snowmobiles, boats and motorcycles. The hotel
has 156 rooms with two queen beds, and can accommodate a
maximum of two guests in each room.
Holiday Inn Suites Mammoth Lakes, 3236 Main
Street Hwy 203, is four miles from the ski area and 1
mile from the Sierra Star golf course. the modern rooms
accommodate up to four people. Units have modern
conveniences including coffee makers, hairdryers,
cable/satellite TV, and suites contain jacuzzi tubs or
kitchenettes. Ski lockers are available.
Sierra Lodge, at 3540 Main Street is a standard
mid-level hotel (3 stars) with quite a few attractive
features -- including free continental breakfast, indoor
and outdoor parking, local shuttle (and to the ski area)
from November through May. The rooms are in a
contemporary style. The Fireside Room provides a wood
burning stove, good views, and comfortable couches. You
can rent rooms with kitchenettes. The hotel is walking
distance to restaurants and shops in the downtown area.
