Taos
has a good selevtion of hotels and motels. It also has
wonderful historic hotels and charming, atmospheric bed
and breadfast inns. Here is a selective list.
Casa
de la Chimeneas
405 Cordoba Road
Named for the chimneys adorning the kiva fireplaces found
in each room, this delightful B&B is well known for
the extra touches provided by owner Susan Vernon-Rios:
sheepskin mattress covers and luxury bed linens, to name
just two. The grounds are well landscaped with three
separate gardens, a hot tub, and a fountain amidst the
flowers. Each room and suite has private bath, TV, VCR,
and bar with mini-fridge. Susan, an award winning cook,
is noted for her breakfast cuisine, and is a contributor
to Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines..
Brooks
Street Inn
119 Brooks Street
Built in the 1950s in the traditional adobe manner, this
inn offers a location convenient to the Taos Plaza, Kit
Carson State Park, and other attractions. There are six
rooms, all with private bath. Each room, named for a
native tree, is eclectically furnished, and some have
fireplaces and cozy alcoves. Breakfast includes an
espressso bar, pastries, entrees, and fresh fruit. When
it's warm, breakfast is served in the adobe walled
garden.

The pueblo style adobe sits under cottonwood trees,
surrounded by horse pastures, and fine mountain views.
Enclosed courtyards offer strolls through flower gardens,
past a fountain, to a sauna and whirlpool. Seven units
offer sitting areas with fireplaces, private bath with
shower or whirlpool tub. Two units have two full-size hot
tubs. The 17th Century dining room, where full breakfast
is served, features a large kiva fireplace. European
pastries are served from 3-4 p.m., and fireside hors
d'oevres in winte from 5-6 p.m.
El
Monte Lodge
317 Kit Carson Road
Located four blocks from the historic Taos Plaza, the El
Monte Lodge offers rooms decorated in Southwestern style,
some with kiva fireplaces and kitchenettes. All rooms
have refrigerators. A laundry is on the premises. The
rooms are in adobes situated under cottonwoods, in a
quiet residential area.
La
Posada de Taos B&B
309 Juanita Lane
Parts of this fine adobe building have two-foot thick
walls. with brick and saltillo tile floors. The inn
offers six guest rooms, each with bath, furnished with
country antiques and handmade quilts. Breakfast is served
at 8 a.m. Three rooms are in the main house, with two in
the older adobe section. A cozy, separate cottage is
perfect for honeymoons, or quiet getaways, with a large
kiva fireplace prepared every day.
Old
Taos Guest House
1028 Witt Road
All eight rooms in this historic and distinctive guest
house have outside entrances and private baths, and some
have skylights, and kiva fireplaces. You have your choice
of rooms with king, queen, and twin beds. An expanded
Continental breakfast is served amidst antiques in the
Breakfast Room. The adobe building was built more than
150 years ago, and is set on a rise overlooking
Taos.
San
Geronimo Lodge
216M Paseo del Pueblo Norte
The San Geronimo, an adobe built in 1925 in the style of
a grand lodge, has been restored with the 18 rooms
containing unique hand-crafted furniture. The lodge is
located on 2.5 acres of natural countryside, with fruit
trees, on the banks of the Acequia Madre. A full country
breakfast is provided, featuring a hot entree with
muffins, buscuits or breads, juices, and coffee. Features
include a large swimming pool, whirlpool, cable TV,
telephones, and an afternoon snack is available.

Mountain Inn

The pueblo-style inn sits on a hill overlooking the
valley, and the Rocky Mountains. The four units are
condominiums, with a variety of accommodations. The
Terrace Suite has one bedroom, king bed and two baths,
plus two queen futon sofa beds. The Grand Suite has two
bedrooms, two baths, with 3 queen beds and a queen sofa
bed. Other suites have one and two queen beds, and a
futon sofa bed. Hiking trails are nearby. The inn
features outdoor decks, fireplaces, and a large outdoor
hot tub with great views.
Willows
Inn B&B
NDCBU 6560, Corner Kit Carson & Dolan
The inn sits inside adobe walls, in elegant landscaped
gardens, getting its name from the two giant willow trees
-- among the largest on the continent. The five guest
rooms are all distinctive, with private entrances off the
courtyards, kiva fireplaces, and private baths with
shower and tub or Jacuzzi. Full breakfast is served, and
afternoon refreshments are available. The rooms are
wonderfully decorated with western artifacts and
furniture. The inn offers a fishing guide service (with
additional fee). Proprietors are Janet and Doug
Camp.
The
Historic Taos Inn
125 Paseo del Pueblo Norte
The Taos Inn is an utterly charming hotel, with 36 rooms
(including three suites). The lobby sits where an early
small plaza used to be, with parts of the building dating
back to the 1600s. What was a well in the former plaza
has been converted to a fountain. Located off the lobby
is Doc Martin's Restaurant, serving three meals
daily.

Benavides
137 Kit Carson Road
This inn was the family home of owner (along with her
husband and son) Barbara McCarthy, a Taos native. This,
combined with other neighboring adobe buildings, has
resulted in 22 guest rooms, all with private bath and TV
and some with kitchenettes. All rooms are authentically
decorated in New Mexican style with kiva fireplaces and
tile. Breakfast might include eggs with green chile and
cheese and homemade flour tortillas ($$ to $$$).
