Mark Twain and Teddy Roosevelt raved about it. The Nevada Silver rush took all of the trees they could cut from around it and took then to Viriginia City to build the mines and houses there. Swells from San Francisco discovered it and brought their big wooden boats and built grandiose cabins around it. A new generation (or two) of pines have grown and the lake is a national gem enjoyed by throngs of visitors to the largest alpine lake in America.
Lake Tahoe captures the imagination of everyone who visits this shimmering very blue body of water, sitting in a magnificent mountain bowl on the heights of the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. We hope this guide will help you to plan your next visit here.

Skiing Tahoe
The ski hills are closed for the season. Squaw Valley and Heavenly are hosting summer activities.
